Hello BeOne community!!
Take a look at what I found!
Girl Model – Trailer
This film Girl Model is a powerful work of art. Take a look here.
I recently stumbled across it on Netflix instant, and it is also on PBS HERE and thought it was one of the best films I’ve seen on the subject of young girls in the modeling industry. What surprised me even more was their website! They have a page dedicated to Organizations and Partners that blew me away. Websites like Beauty Redefined and Healthy Girls Hardy Women are great resources if you’re looking to start campaigns/awareness of beauty and all of its inner qualities we forget.
In the film there is a former model turned scout who sort of leads the audience along as she scouts young 13 year old Nadya for the Japanese market. We follow Nadya through her rural life and into Japan as she sets out on her first trip as a model. The film also follows the agent as she tells us about her job now, and it shows footage of her as a model when she was 18. The documentary is a must-see.
I am encouraged by the filmmakers’ passion for spreading the word about underage girls in the industry, and was fascinated by their approach. It was obviously difficult, when Nadya would be unable to interpret or call home, to stay behind the lens. At certain points they intervened and helped her by supplying her with a phone to speak with her mother.
It is always a great reminder to me to remain focused on creating appreciation for Deeper Beauty in myself and my family, my friends, my city. We can all make a difference right where we are.
BE UNITED, Be Real, BE BEAUTIFUL
